Roger Button (Consultant)

For over 40 years Roger has provided legal support for construction and engineering projects, both in the UK and internationally. His work has included the drafting and negotiation of contracts, general advice during the project and the resolution of claims. He has acted for all participants in the construction process, including employers, contractors, subcontractors and consultants.

After studying at Oxford University, Roger qualified as a solicitor in 1971. Following qualification he joined the legal department of a large UK contractor.  Thereafter, he worked in two London law firms before joining Jaques & Lewis (subsequently Eversheds) in 1982. He was the Head of Eversheds’ London Construction Group.

In 2001 he joined Shadbolt & Co, a specialist construction practice. In 2010 he became a partner in Mills & Co whilst also acting as a consultant to other law firms, both in the UK and abroad.  He joined Corbett & Co as a consultant in 2018.

Roger is a Deputy Chairman of the Contracts Committee of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), which is responsible for the drafting and amendment of all engineering contracts published by the IChemE, including the IChemE Burgundy Book form of target cost contract, which Roger originated. He has also been concerned with the drafting of the IChemE international suite of contracts for use in process projects worldwide.

He is a registered adjudicator, a member of the Society of Construction Law, the Society of Construction Arbitrators and a Registered Arbitrator at the Qatar International Center of Arbitration.

Roger has frequently spoken at conferences on construction law topics, including on the FIDIC forms of contract and contracts for process projects.
