Joanne Clarke (Counsel)

Joanne joined Corbett & Co in 2015 as a solicitor after moving back to the UK from Paris where she practised for six years.  She has over 15 years’ experience of dispute resolution proceedings concerning civil engineering, building, power generation and infrastructure projects. 

In recent years, Jo has concentrated on international commercial arbitration with a focus on disputes relating to international construction and infrastructure projects.  She has acted as counsel and advocate in international arbitration proceedings under many of the major institutional rules as well as ad hoc arbitrations.  She has particular experience conducting ICC and CRCICA arbitrations.  Jo has been involved in arbitrations arising from projects in, and involving the law of, many different jurisdictions including in East and West Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australasia.   

Jo obtained an LL.B. in Law with French from Birmingham University before moving to Brussels where she worked for two years in the European Commission.  She completed an LL.M. and went on to train as a solicitor with Wragge & Co where she qualified into the construction team.  She then joined Norton Rose in London where she worked on disputes arising from international and domestic civil engineering, building, power generation and infrastructure projects, and Reed Smith where she gained experience of coverage and defence work under professional indemnity insurance policies in the construction and engineering sectors.  Jo moved to Paris in 2008 where she joined Salans (now Dentons) and then Hafez, a specialist international arbitration practice.  Acting as counsel and advocate, Jo conducted arbitrations arising from international projects in the construction, infrastructure, energy, hotels and telecoms sectors.  Jo’s focus on international arbitration continues at Corbett & Co.    

Jo is a solicitor advocate and a member of the International Bar Association and Society of Construction Law.  She is a French speaker.
